WHAT IS BOTOX® AND XEOMIN®?

THE BOTOX® AND XEOMIN® PROCESS

The BOTOX® or Xeomin® chemical is injected into your face with a very fine needle. It is placed in your most troublesome areas, usually the lines between your eyebrows and the extra lines around your eyes. By reducing contractions, we temporarily reduce the appearance of frown lines. It generally takes three to seven days to take full effect. 

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM MY PROCEDURE?

At New River Health and Wellness, we can perform BOTOX® and Xeomin® injections here in our Blacksburg office. The procedure usually lasts 10-20 minutes and patients are discharged on the same day. While Dr. Campbell will not need to administer anesthesia, she may employ other methods to reduce pain and swelling in the affected area, such as anti-inflammatory medication or a cold compress.

Temporary bruising is a common side effect of BOTOX® and Xeomin® injections. A much rarer side effect that a patient may experience is headaches, which will dissipate within 24 to 48 hours after treatment. After the treatment, you can expect to return to normal activity immediately though you should avoid direct sunlight and rubbing the injection sites for approximately 12-24 hours.
